About Rabbi Weiss
Rabbi Loel Martin Weiss was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received his BA in Psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his MA and Rabbinic Ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. The Jewish Theological Seminary has also awarded him a Doctor of Divinity (HC). He serves as a United States Navy Chaplain with the rank of Commander.
Currently rabbi of Temple Beth Am in Randolph, Massachusetts, Rabbi Weiss previously served at Congregation Agudat Achim in Leominster, Massachusetts. He has lectured for the Naval Chaplains' School and the Naval War College. He has written a variety of articles on Jews in the Military and helped edit a pamphlet on counseling Jewish personnel with suicidal tendencies.
Active in community affairs, he is past president of the New England Region, Rabbinical Assembly and a former member of the International Rabbinical Assembly's Executive Council and chaired its Rabbinic Services Committee. He currently serves as a member of its Committee on Jewish Law and Standards.
Rabbi Weiss has been the co-host of the Weekly Radio Show, "Topic Religion" on WEEI, Boston and has served as spokesperson for the Randolph Peace Committee and as a member of the Norfolk Country (MA) Task Force on Safety. Rabbi Weiss is a member of the Institutional Review Board at New England Sinai Hospital and he currently writes a regular column on Religion in Public Life for the Patriot-Ledger Newspaper and is a Chaplain of the Randolph Police Department and the Norfolk County District Attorneys Office.
He is married to Patty Weiss a teacher at the Solomon Schechter School of Greater Boston and has three sons and five grandchildren.Email the Rabbi at: lmwe@verizon.net
